Week 61 Grateful Heart = Happy Heart

Howdy everyone!
So. This week has truly been a blessed one.
To begin with, funny story for smiles are good things.
I knew that Sister Cox hadn't been sleeping well for the past couple of months. I've been doing a lot of thinking on it just on how I could possibly help and I was praying Saturday night when I realized that it was probably because of the stress that she's been feeling from me as a companion and how she feels like I am judging her....on and on. The mind went into hyper-drive. She was in the shower and I went in there to brush my teeth and felt like crying. "Sister Cox, I now know why you haven't slept the past couple of months. You fell like I'm judging you, you're never good enough...blah blah" I went on and on. Finally I eventually stopped and everything was rather quiet in the shower. She finally replied "Sister Call, that's not it at all...I don't know how to say this, but you snore"
...NOOOOO!! Sister Call does NOT snore. But alas, jokes on me. The allergies have gotten real (ps. I didn't even think I HAD allergies. bother. leave it to Oklahoma) and my companion's suffering for it. Bah.
Moving on, Burhnam got baptized on Sunday! He is a soldier who has been taking the lessons the past couple of weeks on base. He has a couple family members that are LDS so he's taken the lessons a few times before. Things really have 'gotten real' for him in Basic as of lately. He's really come to realize what is most important in life and that is the need for his Savior. It was a privilege being able to teach him, especially since he pretty much taught half of the class! The water was freezing he said, but it was honest to goodness an incredible thing being able to see someone choose to live a completely different life style based on a humbling simple, spiritual promptings. He's going to do great things and become something wonderful through the Atonement.
*funny note** We were driving behind the troops who have to march to the chapel that has the font, and all of a sudden we see the elders and a soldier in an acu streak past behind us. WHAT the? It was Brother Burhnam, yes, getting baptized! We tried to wave at them but they didn't see us. We thought they were running to get him a set of white undies that were much needed (woops). We got there with all the soldiers. Burhnam still wasn't there...*gulp** we only had the font for another 15 minutes before it was turned over to Church of Christ. He finally showed!! Ha. Turns out the troops had begun to march without him and they were running because they were trying to find us AND he could have gotten into serious trouble (yes, perhaps kicked out of the army) for being without a battle buddy and just the elders. Welp, nothing was stopping Brother Burhnam from getting baptized that day! :)

Laura, the fiance of a part member family that we've been teaching is such a sweet, quiet lady. She's about 21, our age, and she's VERY shy and has very low confidence in herself. It's been quite the experience being able to see her open up through the spirit and love that are in the lessons. She, in fact, said her first out loud prayer in her life, yesterday. The spirit was very tender. She simply prayed for her little son Ben, and then thanked Him for being there for her. I feel like we get blessed with these tender moments out here every day that I really just so easily take it for granted! I'm just grateful that we're at least realizing them. :)
I love you all. Could you perhaps pray for Laura, Elizabeth, and Sherly? I promise to tell you more info on the other two more next week. I just need to leave now.

PS) I lost my license..called President yesterday and he just laughed at me. "Welp kiddo, you're not going home without that guy..cause you can't!" Oh President, no worries though mom, we're getting it figured out :)

1) Brother Burhnam after the Baptism

2) Mckenzie's garage-the same place I ate exactly a year ago on exchanges with that deliciously carbohydrate filled ranch potato twister. Mmm. Sister Call will NOT roll down the ramp of the plane looking like the bubble gum girl from Charley and the chocolate factory. That's a promise.

Week 60-The Atonement's Power

It's kind of a neat thing folks. I've been doing some thinking as of late as to the amount of changing that I've done out here. It's exciting because I started getting down on myself, nothing to big standing out to me, and then the spirit hit me. I have been changing, this whole time, especially in the last couple of months. Alma 37:41 was found "Nevertheless, because those miracles were worked by small means it did show unto them marvelous works. They were slothful, and forgot to exercise their faith and diligence and then those marvelous works ceased, and they did not progress in their journey." How amazing! Heavenly Father always works through those small means, and so does His son's Atonement. I'm grateful for how much control Heavenly Father has in our lives and with our progress. We just need to trust Him and what He tells us to do. I'm here to testify that it works! Fancy that..

This week has been one of miracles. I had the flu (first time on the mission. Talk about blessings) Monday evening and Heavenly Father certainly helped us getting out the door Tuesday. We were walking to try this Former (investigator) and we saw a man sitting on his porch. We were able to teach him the first lesson and he was the kindest man ever! His name is Vernon and he's actually homeless sooo we're going to need to figure that one out..but Heavenly Father knows Vernon's needs. :)
The next day we were on the streets and this man pulled to the side of the side and called out to us. He said that he recognized us and wished that we would come over and teach him more lessons about Christ. (..what?) Do not know this fella since Adam. Heavenly Father's hand. We were able to walk over to his car shop and teach him right then. His name is Carlos and - side note-, he's divorced but he told us about his 11 year old daughter who he knows would love this message too. Welp, turns out that we knocked into his ex-wife's house the night before and met his daughter, Carla, without even knowing it. Heavenly Father needs this family taught. His ex-wife is not interested but all is well, Heavenly Father knows, He knows.
And after that, we knocked another door and found this out-of-the-blue less active who's not on the ward roster. She wants to come to church and she lives in a house with another less active and a lot of non members who are interested. Gah!
Lastly, we had this lesson set up with a less active who we've been visiting for a while. She is actually excommunicated and hasn't gone to church in years and then her husband is a recent convert less active as well. We show up and they are actually having a cook out in the back around a fire and so what did we do? You're darn-tootin' RIGHT we had a lesson around the fire! ( Papa-squat er'body-not really) The spirit was there, and when I walked through the church doors, after coming back from teaching on base, there was Brother and Sister Lynch, sitting there in the pew over. My jaw dropped.
Now I hope that I never get de-sensitized or numb to any form of miracle that Heavenly Father blesses us with. This week, that wasn't too hard to do though. :)

Love you all, continue to see miracles in your own lives!

1) Here's a few of my Basic training buddies. Larkin (the one on the right) was just baptized last week because of her friend on the left. (I can't remember her name but she is planning on going on a mission after basic and AIT.

2) Our one somewhat growing plant in the backyard in a toilet bowel for your viewing pleasure

3) It's either this, or an OU sign on every driveway. Oklahoma has my heart.

WEEK 59-Okla-HOME-a. yes. I know I've used it before..‏

"Mmm blessings. Blessings every where" - Elder Dutson, our new District Leader's, phrase.

Julian's Baptism

Julian Lara (Juan's younger brother) was baptized on Saturday. When Juan was getting taught Julian did NOT want to be a part of it. Was he being a slight stink? ...mm, perhaps. *shrug* A few weeks after Juan was baptized though, he told us that he wanted to be baptized as well. Okay. So the change that we saw in this little 9 year old boy the weeks following has really been incredible. He was pretty sour and was always yelling at his brothers while we were there and such. Well, the atonement has become pretty real for me once again through this little guy. He really does always have a grin now, and those boys get along so well. One of the brothers even says something rather snarky, and he doesn't even say anything back now. Bishop confirmed him yesterday and he promised Julian that he would serve a full time mission. I wasn't there because I was on FT. Sill, but Sister Cox told me about it. I couldn't help but begin to cry. How incredible will that be? It's wonderful to see Heavenly Father's beautiful plan for all of his children. How we were blessed to be able to help this family, and then these precious boys are going to go out into the world and change other's as well with the fire that they have for this gospel in their own hearts. It gives me chills.

I need to go, but I love you all! some pics, you are one odd duckling of a church around here if you don't have a 'church bus'. I'm tellin ya, everyone has them. And then the random cross the size of the Christus in Rio.
Have a great week!

Week 58 Gabriella's Baptism

So this week Gabriella was baptized!
So this is Priscilla, Grabriella and Sister Cox

This is Kara from a family Priscilla helping to come back to church.....

How wonderful.
Everything else has been going pretty well. Sister Cox and I saw a good number of miracles this week. Our work with the members has been paying off. We received TWO member referrals last week. Huzzah. Now don't let that sound wimpy to you..because it's not! One is a Polynesian family who pastors their own church...so there you go. Hey, we're excited.
I'm sorry that this email is so short. Time is nuts but I promise to be better next week.
I love you all, keep it up!
Love, Sister Call
